A Sunday routine is a great routine to have in order to stay organised and get ready for the week.

As well as having a to-do list and monthly schedule I would even say that a Sunday routine is just as important as these organisation methods, and is something you need to get into to better your week.

This routine consists of having a ‘reset day’ every Sunday in order to refresh yourself and start anew for the following week.

What is a reset day? It is a day which you take out to organise your life and get it in order.

This Sunday reset list will give you an idea of a reset routine, but by all means take out what you need to and add in what works for you. The following tasks in the checklist will help you structure your days so that even if you have a hard week ahead of you, you’re going to be ready to tackle it!

How do you prepare for a week on Sunday?

1. Review your calendar/ goals from last week

In order to do even better the following week, you should evaluate what happened the previous week. Were you able to reach your goals? Did your plans go smoothly? What could have been better? Did you enjoy the way the week went?

Think about these type of questions and with your answers you can plan the week ahead of you to be more efficient and enjoyable.

2. Write out your to-do-list for the day

In order for your Sunday routine to be efficient as a reset day, list down all the things you need to get done.

Do you need to book a dentist appointment? Do you need to give your cat a bath? Do you need to do a car wash that you were supposed to do weeks ago?

When writing your schedule for the day, make sure that you get these specific tasks out of the way because if you don’t as the weeks go by they will pile up and you’re eventually going to have to spend an entire day just getting those things done.

3. Write out your goals for the following week  (the rule of three)

Think of three goals that you want to achieve in the following week, then break these goals down into a series of steps you need to do to reach them. Each day, complete a certain amount of steps to reach those goals.

Remember, these goals don’t need to be work-related. If you want to go see your grandma that is a goal in itself. In this case the steps would be a lot quicker, call her up and tell her you’re coming, buy a gift for her, and plan your journey there.

Once you have got all your goals in place, write a to-do list for tomorrow (Monday); this way you won’t faff around thinking about what you need to get done and will be on the ball straight away in the morning.

The best Sunday routine is one that relaxes you and organises you for the week ahead, so we’re going to get rid of the harder tasks so that you can do the simpler tasks later on in the day.

4. Get your laundry done

Yes, it is a boring task but you may as well do it on your reset day.

5. Deep clean something

Each week, deep clean a specific part of your home. This makes the task a lot less time-consuming as you are only focussing on one part of your home a week. It will also improve how well you clean the chosen place as you know you’re only doing this section.

6. Clean and tidy the house

After you have done your deep clean, spend some time cleaning the rest of your house. Throw away old things and dust and wipe your surfaces. A tidy home is a tidy mind!

7. Organise your finances

Based on your upcoming week schedule, create a rough idea of how much you think you’re going to spend. If you’re trying to budget find areas where you can cut on your spending.

Have a quick look at your subscriptions and how much is coming in an out overall. If you realise you don’t need that subscription anymore get rid of it.

Keep your weekly finance checks quick and simple. If you want to read more about how to keep your finances in order and attain financial success (including tips that many successful businesswomen and men use) have a read of this.

8. Organise your emails

Talking about subscriptions, look through your emails and get rid of those pesky subscription emails that bring no use to you. Go through unread messages, clean out your spam and reply to relevant emails.

9. Meal prep for the following week

If you know you have a hard week ahead of you, meal prepping is another great way to save time.

Meal prepping will let you create more nutritious meals for lower costs as well. It’s a win win all round.

10. Exercise

If you can’t find time to exercise during the week, make time for it every Sunday. Exercising for one day of the week is better than not exercising at all.

Some people find exercise a de-stressing activity, but if it doesn’t work the same way as you, set aside some time for a guided meditation or whatever you like.

11. Plan your outfits for the week

Now that you have organised your week ahead, you know exactly what goals you want to reach and which places you’re going to go to, plan your outfits for them.

If you’re the type of person that takes forever to choose your outfits, this will be a great time-saver. For the clothes you’re going to wear tomorrow, get them ironed and place it somewhere easy to reach.

To be a bit more extra, for the clothes you will need later on put them into their specific outfits and put them on hangers.

12. Wash make up brushes

Amongst the huge list of things to get done, doing tasks like washing your make up brushes may seem trivial and insignificant. But these things build up!

A week goes by, another week goes by and before you know it its been months. Then you get one pimple then another and then your face is covered with acne (wow, that was so dramatic).

This is just one example of the consequences of leaving seemingly insignificant tasks for later; get them done, they are usually the least time-consuming and easiest things to do.

13. Plan something fun

In your week of busyness, make sure you plan something that takes your mind of of it. This step is ESSENTIAL. Life isn’t all about getting one thing done after the other, no matter how satisfying it is to tick a task off your list.

What’s the point of it if you can’t feel the effects of it, if you’re not experiencing and embracing the process as you’re working on it?

Scheduling down time inspires mindfulness and gives meaning to life (which you otherwise won’t recognise without taking a break!)

14. Indulge yourself in self care

Whooo, I had to take a breath after writing all that (never mind having to do it all). Once again guys I remind you, you don’t need to do everything on this list just do what feels relevant to you.

A very important part of your Sunday reset day is also to enjoy yourself and take care of yourself! Use this day to be on track with your self care, get your pedicure done and treat your skin with a face mask or two.

But self care doesn’t just relate to physical forms of self care, it can also be taking care of yourself by doing the things you want! If you want to finish your Sunday off stuffing your face and doing a movie marathon go for it.

A great way to practice self care is by experiencing hygge; in this post I give you simple tips on how to do hygge and how you can use it to start removing the presence of social media and other distractions in your life.

15. Journal

Doing a brain dump every week will do wonders for your mental health. It is a great stress-reliever and can help you organise your thoughts and help you structure your life.

There are so many different ways you can benefit from journaling and this post gives you an 18-week challenge to complete. It aims to help you re-evaluate and reflect on life and continue on your journey even stronger.
