These journal prompts for self-love will inspire you to live your best life, remove toxic influences and wake up every day excited and ready to start your day the way you want.

Now, the thought of journaling doing all these thing for you may sound like a drastic and unrealistic transformation of your life.

Can answering daily prompts do that? Can journaling really transform my life and help you lead your dream life?

Words play a massive part in life; the term ‘actions speak louder than words’ is true but first before doing an action you must believe in what you’re doing.

Even if you’re not telling anyone about it, talking yourself into believing you can do something really shows the power of words.

Journaling works in the exact same way. Whether you’re look for journal prompts for self-reflection, journal prompts for self-discovery or journal prompts for self-love, all these terms fall under the same umbrella – PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH.

Journaling your thoughts and going through a set of questions that guide you to reach your best self will help you figure out answers that you may not have at the moment. It can set you on the path to great change and transformation in life.

This list of 18 journal prompts for self-love will help you build on your personal development skills and push you towards that life that you deserve.

Answer each of these questions weekly; I will list a set of tasks under each journal prompt, throughout the week work on these tasks and at the end of the week, note down how you did and then move onto the next journal prompt.

What do you love about yourself the most?

List down physical and emotional qualities and describe why you love them. How did you get these qualities. Did you get it from learning from something or is something that you picked up as you grew up watching one of your loved ones?

If you’re finding it difficult to find things that you love about yourself, write what you can right now and do the following tasks. At the end of the week, jot down if you found any other qualities you love about yourself in your journal.

Task 1: Get in front of the mirror just before you enter the shower or are about to have a bath. Walk around in front of it and look at yourself, dance, move and ADMIRE. Appreciate what your body does for you and look for the beauty in it.

Task 2: In this group activity, either face-to-face or in a group chat, ask your friends to say what they love about each other. The best way is to do it in a circle so that everyone is covered. This process of looking for others beautiful traits and also listening to your own will open your eyes and help you find beauty in places you may not have before.

What things do you do daily that hurt you?

This could be talking to someone who constantly faults you, a bad habit of watching T.V. too much and falling behind on important work, or as simple as not taking your vitamins daily.

Identify all the small things you do that hurt you in a non-serious way.

TASK 1: Choose the point that you think will be the easiest to overcome and start working on it RIGHT NOW. Once you have stopped doing this, keep on going from easiest to hardest.

What areas of your life make you feel anxious/ uncomfortable/ down?

We’re now going to tackle the more serious areas of your life.

Instead of focussing on small things that hurt you on a daily basis now take a step back and look at your life at a birds-eye view. What parts of your life bring you unease? What could be improved?

TASK 1: Type ‘life wheel’ into google and choose one of the images. Write a score out of 10 on how good you think you’re doing in these areas of your life.

TASK 2: Find the 3 areas that you scored lowest on and break then down into actionable steps you can take so that you can start improving those areas of life.

What is your passion?

Forget about what is ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong.’ As long as it is morally correct and will do something good for you, stretch your imagination. What gives you true, genuine happiness? What lights fires in your mind when you think about it? What makes you want to jump up and begin?

When writing down this passion or passions, describe how you think it will make you feel, what you would do while you’re working on it, and how your daily life will become.

TASK 1: Break this passion down into steps you can take to get there.

Do you spend enough alone time?

Alone time or ‘Me’ time is essential for everyone, even IF you’re the type of person that likes to always be surrounded by people. It helps you develop independence, self-confidence and motivation.

What do you do when you spend time by yourself? Could you be a bit more productive? Could you engage in activities that will bring more to your life?

Taking care of plants is a great activity for your alone time; it has proven to help your mental health and productivity.

TASK 1: Set aside at least an hour of ‘Me’ time this week (if you can spare more time, even better) and do something that you’ve really wanted to do.

TASK 2: Alternatively, in that hour do something productive that you think will enrich you in that time. This doesn’t mean you have to be cleaning the house or catching up on a project, it could be something like brushing up on your painting skills or starting a herb garden.

If you were forced to cut one bad thing out of your life right now, how would you feel after?

Don’t think about how to cut that thing out right now, think about how you would feel after it is gone.

Let’s take for example a friend who likes to give you constructive criticism… all the time, and if its not all the time it feels like that because they never congratulate you on your achievements.

In this case, think about how it feels every time he/she does that and how it would feel if they would congratulate you.

TASK 1: After you have identified how you would feel in this situation, find a way to deal with it with first, a ‘soft’ approach and then a ‘hard’ approach. A ‘soft’ approach would be something that will not drastically change your life (in this case, having a conversation with your unsupportive friend) and the ‘hard’ approach would have a more impactful effect (like cutting them off completely).

If its something that’s causing you a lot of issues and needs to urgently go, go straight in with the ‘hard’ approach.

How would your life look like if you lived it exactly the way you wanted?

Consider all aspects of your life, from what you want to look/dress like to how you want your diet to be like. Be specific and describe your life almost as if you’re doing creative writing.

TASK 1: Learn the art of romanticizing your life by learning to enjoy the simplest things. The next time you make tea, don’t just mindlessly make it. Focus on the process of pouring the water, brewing the tea etc. It might sound really excessive but this task will also make you more mindful in life and help you do things with intention.

TASK 2: Change this week’s exercise into a series of self love letter prompts. Focus on one aspect of your life at a time and write a letter to your future self of how things are now and how you hope things to be.

What gifts do you like to receive that make you feel happy?

Looking at the material objects that you like to receive think about why you like them. If you like perfumes as a gift, it means that you enjoy smelling good. So, you know the next time you do some form of self-care to incorporate nice scents into it.

You can do this process with the immaterial gifts you receive too (such as a loved one helping you out, or receiving a hug from someone).

TASK 1: Buy yourself a gift this week and don’t feel guilty about it at all.
